PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately feed the paper by a conveying roller even when the back tension is changed, in a recording device capable of forming a slackened state by over-rotation of the roll paper. SOLUTION: A printer 100 is provided with this paper feeder 1 at a rear part of the device. The paper feeder 1 is provided with a roll paper holder not shown in Fig. at its upper part, and the roll paper P is delivered from the roll paper holder. The roll paper P is delivered by the delivering roller 10. When the roll paper is delivered by the conveying roller 10, it is over-rotated and forms the slackened state. Though the back tension of the conveying roller 10 is varied on the basis of the presence or absence of the slackened state, a coefficient of variation can be reduced as the uniform back tension has been applied by a press roller 6 in advance.
