PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode mix for an alkaline manganese battery improved in high-rate intermittence performance and to provide a battery using it. SOLUTION: In this manganese dioxide, the quantity of sulfuric acid on its surface is 0.10 wt.% or more, and the quantity of alkaline metal on the surface is less than 0.20 wt.%. This alkaline manganese battery uses the manganese dioxide for a positive electrode active material.
