A replaceable die plate 9 of an extruder, particularly intended for the production of tyre tread stock, is removable from its position abutting die-head plates 12, 13 when a frame 17 supporting clamping plate 23 is swung from the position shown in Fig. 4 to that shown in Fig. 1. A latch 40, Fig. 4, is pivotally mounted on shaft 42 between lever members 43 and 44, Fig. 1, keyed to a crank shaft 50. When frame 17 is in the Fig. 4 position, shaft 50 is manually rotated to bring hooked end 54 of latch 40 into engagement with an adjustable eccentrically mounted pin 34. Clamping plate 23, pivoted on a shaft 25, pressingly engages die plate 9 by means of surfaces 60, 62 when latch 40 is closed and the parts may be locked due to the overcentre relationship between shafts 42 and 50. A lever 30 mounted on clamping plate 23 engages a spring-biased plunger 32 and allows predetermined positioning and yielding movement of the clamping plate.
