PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and easily grasp a property of an element in a metallic belt for a continuously variable transmission wherein plural plane elements are laminated in the thickness direction to form a ring-shaped element line and the element line is held in a shape of a ring by a ring member to be fitted. SOLUTION: The linear element line 15 formed by linearly laminating the plural elements 1 in the thickness direction are fastened between a pressing block 9 and a pressed block 13. In a state that the pressed block 13 is movable on a surface crossing an arrangement direction of the linear element line 15 at right angles by loosing a fixing screw 21, the pressing block 9 is advanced to the pressed block 13 side by a pressing cylinder 23. Thus, compression force is applied to the linear element line 15. At this time, a moving amount of the linear element line 15 along the direction crossing the element arrangement direction is measured by a dial gauge 33.
