PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance workability of tunnel excavating work by enabling a tunnel excavator to remove earth stably and smoothly. SOLUTION: In an earth pressure shield excavator, the first manhole 25 is formed in a bulkhead 22 of an excavator body 11, a first hatch 26 is provided, in such a manner as to freely open/close the first manhole 25; a stirring rod 34 is mounted on the first hatch 26; a mud adding nozzle 35 is provided at an end protruding into a chamber 23; and the direction of a jet of a mud additive jetted from the nozzle 35 of the stirring rod 34 can be changed to the circumferential direction, and a position of the jet thereof is made axially changeable.
