摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for converting a decimal digit into a binary digit. SOLUTION: In a system and a method for encoding a decimal number into a binary number or reversely, the coding is based on the Chen-Ho algorithm, where three decimal digits are represented as ten binary bits. When this encoding is employed, first three bits of a binary output are 0, if the preceding (most significant) decimal digit is 0. First six bits of a binary output are 0, if first two decimal digits are 0. Consequently, the same coding can be used flexibly, for coding two decimal digits into seven binary bits or for coding one decimal digit into four binary bits.
