PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and the like for producing a cyclic olefin-based polymer having high transparency, high heat resistance and low water absorp tion. SOLUTION: This method for producing a cyclic olefin-based polymer is to (co)polymerize dicyclopentadien and/or 7, 8-dihydrodicyclopentadiene by using a catalyst system containing half metallocene. The cyclic olefin-based polymer obtained by this method and its hydrogenated product are also claimed.
