The valve and operating mechanism are removed to give access on site to the valve seatings (4,5). The worn material is mechanically removed and a welding electrode (27), auto fed welding wire (25), and camera (26) are introduced. The welding equipment is carried on a support (19) attached to a trolley which is displaceable in three orthogonal directions (13,14,15) and deposits the new seating between concentric guides under numerical control.
