[Also in Division H4] Colours on a document 12, e.g. a map, are separated into at least two spectral ranges, e.g. by a dichroic mirror 22, detected at 28, 30 and each range is coded as a multilevel signal in which, for example, it is represented as +, 0, or - relative to a neutral (grey) background. Each detector is followed by clipping circuits which are connected to logic circuits providing three inputs to an AND gate colour decoder. A timing disc 40 coupled to the document drum 10 provides clock pulses for enabling the decoder and control logic 44 providing addresses to be recorded at 48 with the decoded colour signal. The lens 20 is advanced to scan a different area of the document 12 after each rotation of the drum 10. |
