PROCESS FOR CONVERSION OF 1,4-BUTYNEDIOL TO 1,4-BUTENEDIOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing 1,4-butenediol in high efficiency at a low cost by hydrogenating 1,4-butynediol. SOLUTION: This process for the production of 1,4-butenediol contains a step to hydrogenate an aqueous solution of 1,4-butynediol on a supported platinum, palladium or nickel catalyst in a basic medium under stirring at 20-110 deg.C under a pressure of 200-700 psig till the reaction is completed, a step to cool the reaction mixture to room temperature and a step to separate the catalyst by conventional method to obtain 1,4-butenediol.
