PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new surfactant which is useful as a detergent, an emulsifier, a dispersant, and a solubilizing agent, and less irritant, excellent in formability, and also is hardly hydrolyzed. SOLUTION: A two-hydrophilic-group nonionic surfactant of the formula: G<1> -O-CH2 CH(OH)CH2 -O-R-O-CH2 CH(OH)CH2 -O-G<2> (wherein R is a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group which has 6-44 carbon atoms, is straight- chained or branch-chained and may contain aromatic rings, ether groups and ketone groups; G<1> and G<2> are each a saccharide except for a trehalose or a polyalcohol having at least three hydroxide groups; and the two may be the same or different from each other and may be bonded with different hydroxide groups) is obtained from saccharides and a long-chain aliphatic diglycidyl ether. |
