PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optically connect optical fibers with each other easily and inexpensively. SOLUTION: The optical fiber connecting unit has supporting members 2, 5 that hold the connecting ends 12, 14 of respective optical fibers 1, 6 in a manner opposing each other. The supporting members 2, 5 are provided with an LED 3 and a photodiode 8, respectively so that the optical axis of the light emitted from the LED 3 forms a prescribed positional relation with the connecting ends 12, 14 of the optical fibers 1, 6. The supporting members 2, 5 are each structured so as to be movable independently on a plane by the guide rails 10, 11 installed orthogonally to each other. The LED 3 and the photodiode 8 are connected to the supporting members 2, 5, respectively, through optical waveguides 4, 7 whose connecting ends 13, 15 are both held by the supporting members 2, 5.
