The beam for a marine vessel has a flat section forming the boom and with curved outer edges (2) to forma reeling surface for the sail. The beam has a slot with bridging pieces to retain the sail. The front end of the beam is conical and has a rotary mounting to a hinged pivot (9) on the mast. The other end of the beam has a threaded cap to retain a pulley block (13). The cap (16) also supports a pulley.
