PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water supply apparatus for a refrigerator having a water supply mechanism formed compactly to improve accommodation capacity efficiency of a refrigerator, causing reduced noises, having an elongated life, and further having an improved reliability of water supply operation. SOLUTION: The water supply apparatus for a refrigerator is adapted such that a water supply tank is demountably provided on a refrigerator body, in which tank a water supply pump is provided, which pump is formed with a cylinder forming the pump, a suction valve communicated into the water supply tank, a discharge valve to a discharge pipe, and a piston having a magnet sliding in the cylinder for sucking water in the tank from the suction valve and sending it to the discharge valve, and further a coil is disposed outwardly of the water supply tank, adjoining the piston, for reciprocating the piston of the water supply pump in a non-contact manner by generating a magnetic field.
