PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base isolation structure normally offering rigid construction for suppressing the transmission of vibration due to earthquake. SOLUTION: Normally, contact faces 14 of upper and lower flange portions 12, 13 are kept in close contact by the load of a member located upward from the flange portions 12, 13 and supporting legs 8, 9 split into upper members 8a, 9a and lower members 8b, 9b have rigid construction. When vibrating force resulting from earthquake operates on the supporting legs 8, 9, the upper members 8a, 9a and the lower members 8b, 9b are bent on a boundary between the flange portions 12, 13 and then the flange portions 12, 13 are reset into the condition that both contact faces 14 are in close contact by the load of the member located upward from the flange portion 12 and the repulsive force of an elastic material 17 to produce a reduction in response acceleration of the member located upward from the flange portion 12.
