PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the combustibility of air-fuel mixture in each cylinder in an in-line multi-cylinder internal combustion engine wherein plural common cylinders A1, A2, A3 using one crank shaft, are arranged along the crank shaft. SOLUTION: One communication passage 14 extended to the direction of each cylinder line is provided, a combustion chamber 7 of each cylinder is communicated with the communication passage 14 through a branch passage 15 provided for every cylinder, each branch passage 15 of each cylinder is provided with an on-off valve 16, and the on-off valve is opened in the first half period in an explosion (expansion) stroke of each cylinder to introduce a part of the combustion gas (expansion) gas in one arbitrary cylinder, to one cylinder during an intake stroke or a compression stroke, among the other cylinders.
