PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for joining a steel plate, in which the steel plate can be joined simply to a substrate member without generating welding distortions. SOLUTION: A through-hole 6 is formed previously to the steel plate 4 in response to a site joined with the substrate member 2, and the steel plate 4 is attached closely to the substrate member 2 (Fig. 1 (a)). A stud bolt 16 and a sleeve 14 are inserted into the through-hole 6. The sleeve 14 is formed of an electrical insulating material, is interposed between the stud bolt 16 and the inner circumferential section 6a of the through-hole 6 and electrically insulated both the stud bolt and the inner circumferential section of the through-hole (Fig.1 (b)). Voltage is applied between the stud bolt 16 and the substrate member 2, and both the stud bolt and the substrate member are unified by arc welding. The sleeve 14 is removed, after welding and a nut 24 is installed to the stud bolt 16, and the steel plate 4 is clamped and fixed on the substrate member 2 side by the nut 24 (Fig.1 (c)).
