The method involves producing an image of at least part of a sheet (6) with an image generating device, passing image data for edge regions (7,7') of the sheet to a computer unit (20) and determining the position of the sheet using the image data with an image recognition algorithm. The determined position is compared with stored positions to determine deviations, which are passed to the printer and corrected with a sheet alignment device. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for measuring positions of moving sheets.
