A novel 3-acetyl-N-substituted-3-aminomethyltetrahydrofuran-2-one derivative is represented by following Formula (1): wherein R1, R2 and R3 are the same or different and are each a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group; and R4 and R5 are the same or different and are each a hydrogen atom or an arylmethyl group which may have a substituent, where at least one of R4 and R5 is an arylmethyl group which may have a substituent. This compound can be prepared by aminomethylating an 3-acetyltetrahydrofuran-2-one derivative represented by following Formula (2): wherein R1, R2 and R3have the same meanings as above, by a reaction with formaldehyde or a polymer thereof and a primary or secondary amine represented by following Formula (3): wherein R4 and R5 have the same meanings as above.
