PURPOSE: A device and a method for constructing a database on an e-mail system are provided to efficiently manage the e-mails exchanged through an e-mail program by using a database management function of a DBMS(DataBase Management System). CONSTITUTION: E-mail sending/receiving interfaces(120,130) exchange the e-mail and a search condition through communication between processes of the e-mail system(100) and the DBMS(110). An e-mail storage(160) stores the e-mail transferred from the e-mail sending/receiving interface in an e-mail database after classifying into each item. An index table generator(170) generates an index table by extracting a keyword, which is used as the search condition for searching the contents of the e-mail by a user, from contents of the e-mail. An e-mail searcher(150) searches the contents stored in the e-mail database or a general database, and outputs a search result to the e-mail sending/receiving interface.
