The invention relates to a screw press (1) comprising threads (3) and at least one rotatable hollow stem (2) as well as a sieve cylinder (4) surrounding the stem (2) in parts of or essentially in the entire periphery thereof, thereby providing a drainage gap (6) between the outer surface of the stem (2) and the inner surface of the sieve cylinder (4), said stem (2) being disposed in a housing, said stem (2) comprising at least one drainage pipe (8) in its interior, said drainage pipe communicating with the drainage gap (6) at an inlet opening (9) via a first piping system (10), said drainage pipe (8) comprising an outlet opening (11) for communication with a liquid basin (12) disposed outside the screw press. Spaced from the first piping system (10) there is at least a second communication via a second piping system (13) which connects the drainage gap (6) with at least a second pipe (14), said second pipe (14) comprising an inlet opening (18) for connection/communication with a liquid connection, said second piping system (13) comprising hollow pipes which extend radially from the second pipe (14) and whose outlet openings terminate in the drainage gap. This ensures that the sieve system of the screw press surrounding the stem may be cleaned so that the clogged sieve system is made operative by flushing, which is carried out while the screw press is still in operation, i.e. while the screw press works and the substance is drained.
