Textile sheet with a self-cleaning and water-repellent surface based on natural and/or synthetic textile(s) (A) has an artificial hydrophobic surface (B) with peaks and valleys consisting of particles which are firmly attached to (A) without adhesives, resins or varnish, formed by treatment of (A) with a solvent containing these particles, followed by removal of solvent. An Independent claim is also included for textile sheet as described above (without specifying the method of formation).
