A multi-wheel drive vehicle (200) is provided that can be operated in, for example, two or four-wheel drive configuration. In this regard, a four-wheel drive vehicle (200) is disclosed as having an extendable and retractable supplementary wheel assembly (116) utilized for removing one or more forward wheel drives (112, 114) from engagement with a driving surface. In this manner, the four-wheel drive vehicle (200) is configured in a two-wheel drive mode with the rear wheel drives (108, 110) responsible for driving and steering the vehicle (200). So configured, the vehicle (200) can maneuver through turns more precisely than in the four-wheel drive configuration. |
