An operating member (44b) rotatably supported by the engagement plate is used to disengage the engaging member from the engagement portion of the sewing cartridge (5). A thread cutting device (130) disposed on the back of the engagement plate is actuated in conjunction with the disengagement of the sewing cartridge (5) using the operating member (44b). With the movement of the operating member (44b) after thread cutting operation is completed, a limit switch (170) provided on the engagement plate is turned off, so that a signal is not outputted. Then, when an embroidery frame (4) needs to be detached from a sewing apparatus body, the embroidery frame (4) is moved forward to a detachable position. With this structure, the embroidery frame (4) can be detached from the sewing apparatus body after a thread extending between the embroidery frame (4) and the sewing cartridge (5) is surely cut.
