The invention concerns a multimode transmission device. The invention also concerns a vehicle using such a device. The inventive device essentially comprises parallel kinematic paths (3, 4, 7, 8) and a control device (C) for changeover of transmission modes which operates so that the duration of the mode changeover is reduced to a minimum while preserving the continuity of the torque to the wheel and a good speed synchronisation in the transmission system. The engine-transmission unit (1) delivers its mechanical power to the driven load formed by the drive wheel train (6) through a plurality of kinematic paths (3, 4, 7, 8) such that, during mode changeover, the various paths (3, 7) remain simultaneously engaged. The invention is applicable to motor vehicles.
