The seal is provided with a marking and scanned by a sensor. The presence or absence of the seal is determined. The angular position of the seal relative to a reference may also be determined. The sensor may optically determine deviation in a projection of the external shape of the marking. The sensor may determine the presence of the seal inductively. Independent claims are also included for: (1) an apparatus for checking a container seal; (2) a container with a seal system.
