The device has a main element (3) on the body, and a carrier element for an edge of the glass. The carrier element (4) has several peg-shaped support elements (7) positioned at a distance to each other, and at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the support edge of the glass (2). The glass is supported on at least one support element for security. The support elements can be retracted and/or lowered into the carrier. Main and carrier element are relatively moveable by an adjusting member (6).
