The invention relates to a protective device for the welded splice of coated optical fiber cables, especially fiber strip cables, wherein the coating is removed in the splice spot. The protective device has at least one cover element with a coating that, after welding, is disposed on an optical fiber covering the splice and fixing and linking the coatings of the welded optical fibers. The aim of the invention is to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art and to provide a protective device that allows for a fast and inexpensive connection of spliced optical fibers and that is flexible and only unsubstantially bigger than the optical fibers to be linked. The protective device further allows for an instantaneous optical control of the linked and fixed optical fibers. To this end, the covering element is disposed with its coated sides facing each other and the cover element consists of a polymer material. |
