<p>A method for producing a grain oriented electromagnetic steel sheet which comprises forming a coating layer on the surface of a base steel sheet having a thickness of 0.27 mm or less by vapor deposition in a slightly oxidizing atmosphere wherein the partial pressure of O2 (Po2) is less than 0.1 atm and the total pressure is 0.1 atm or more; and a grain oriented electromagnetic steel sheet exhibiting an extremely small watt loss which comprises a base steel sheet having a thickness of 0.27 mm or less and, formed on the surface thereof by vapor deposition, a coating layer which has a coefficient of thermal expansion less than that of iron, a porosity of 10 % or less, an average thickness per one surface of the sheet of 0.1 νm to 10 νm and an average roughness along the central line (Ra) of the surface thereof of a value less than 0.5 νm. The electromagnetic steel sheet is suitable as a material for an iron core of a transformer or an electric power generator.</p> |
