Single or multi-layer, transparent, biaxially-oriented and heat-fixed partly crystalline film with a crystallisable thermoplastic as the main component contains an antimicrobially effective amount of 2,4,4'-trichloro-2'-hydroxy-diphenyl ether (Triclosan) in the film or in at least one of its layers. An Independent claim is also included for a method for the production of this film by extruding molten polyester material through a sheet die, quenching on a cooling roll, stretching in the machine direction and/or the cross direction and then heat fixing.
