The invention relates to a thread cutter for textile threads comprising a blade (39) which can be moved out of a fixing device and into a cutting position by means of spring force when a releasing mechanism (30, 31, 42, 43) is actuated by a switch signal. The releasing mechanism (30, 31, 42, 43) comprises a capacitor (30) which is mounted on the thread cutter. As much energy is made available or stored by the capacitor so that the fixing device can be released by the discharge of said capacitor on an electromagnet (31) via a power transistor, whereby the thread is cut by the blade (39) when in the cutting position thereof.
