The invention relates to the production of glass strands having polygonal cross-sectional profiles, using moulds having the same cross-sectional profile. In order to produce perfect glass strands having non-breakable edges, a gas film is applied in the corner regions of the glass strands produced, between the inner surface of the wall of the mould and the outer surface of the glass strand.
