The invention provides plasmids, bacteriophages and bacterial strains comprising prophages in which some or all of the cos region has been deleted and replaced in whole or in part by a replacement sequence. The invention also provides methodologies of producing and using such products. Of particular interest are vectors, modified bacteriophages, DNA parkaging components and transducing particles which have broad range infectivity of Actinomycetes bacteria and in particular Streptomyces strains.
