The inner vessel 4 of a double-walled upright cylindrical L.N.G. storage tank is of flexible material e.g. stainless steel and has an open top 4c curved inwardly at 4b and secured to the top wall 2<SP>111</SP> of the outer vessel 2 which wall 2<SP>111</SP> is lined internally with a porous layer 3<SP>111</SP> of heat insulating material e.g. polyurethane through which the gas space 7 is connected to the space 6 between the inner and outer side walls 4<SP>11</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> which is charged with rigid foamed polyurethane or perlite concrete; the bottom walls 2<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP> of the inner and outer vessels being spaced by perlite concrete 3<SP>1</SP>. The side wall 4<SP>1</SP> is corrugated to allow for thermal contraction and hydrostatic load. |
