The spray pistol (1) is particularly for spraying abrasive material or media containing abrasive material and has a valve (8) operable by a nozzle needle and located in the pistol head (2) near the nozzle aperture. An operating and setback device (17,23) is provided for the nozzle needle. The nozzle (8) has a channel (9) issuing in the nozzle aperture of the spray pistol, in which the nozzle needle is displaceably located. A lateral hole feeds media into the nozzle channel. The hole is closable by the nozzle needle and the length of the needle is such that in the rest state it terminates at least with the nozzle aperture of the spray pistol. The nozzle needle is of hard metal or ceramic.
