<p>A process for the substantial destruction of sludge is described, comprising diluting the sludge to 1,000-5,000 mg/litre COD and reacting the sludge with a bacterial population at oxygen levels greater than lppm, under conditions of high intensity mixing. The biological process for the destruction of sludge described herein is particularly useful for the destruction of organic slurries that arise from intensive animal rearing units and sludges resulting from the biological treatment of industrial and domestic waste water.</p> |
