Piston consists of an alloy based on aluminum and silicon with the addition of up to 3 weight % rare earth metals, and 0.2 wt.% cerium and praseodymium. Preferred Features: The alloy contains 50 ppm to 1 wt.% La, Y, Nd, Sc, Eu, Pm, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb or Lu as the rare earth metal.
