[Also in Division F2] A valve for a gas blast electric circuit-breaker has a valve member 6 movable by a pistoncylinder 2, 20 from a seat 11 to a seat 12 to connect a conduit 9 communicating with the contact breaker either to a source of compressed gas connected at 7 or to atmosphere via apertures 10. The valve member is pressure-balanced by gas pressure in chamber 16 communicating with port 7 via valve member apertures 17, 18. The valve at high potential is insulated from the earthed actuator by a hollow insulated operating rod 4 and pillar insulator 3, both filled with gas. Alternatively, the valve and actuator may be built as a unit and maintained at the same potential. In a further embodiment wherein the valve and actuator are built as a unit the chamber below the actuating piston 20 communicates with the conduit 9 via a tube with a restriction therein. This is to overcome a net fluid force on the valve member holding it open.</p> |
