Linear alkylbenzene is prepared by alkylating benzene with flowing hydrogen gas and a liquid feed comprising benzene and 8-18C long chain alpha olefin, through a bed of mordenite catalyst. Molar ratio of benzene to olefin is 2:1-20:1, and molar ratio of hydrogen to the feed is 0.1-10. The catalyst is modified prior to alkylation by steam pre-treatment or chemical vapor deposition of silicon. Linear alkylbenzene is prepared by alkylating benzene with flowing hydrogen gas and a liquid feed comprising benzene and 8-18C long chain alpha olefin, through a bed of mordenite catalyst at 373-523 K, at a pressure of 0.5-5 MPa, and with a feed weight hourly space rate (WHSV) of 2-20 hour->1>. Molar ratio of benzene to the olefin in the liquid feed ranges between 2:1-20:1, and the molar ratio of hydrogen to the liquid feed ranges between 0.1-10. The mordenite catalyst is modified by subjecting to a steam pretreatment or chemical vapor deposition of silicon, prior to the alkylation. |
