The hand-held device(1) comprises a backing tape(7) which is wound around the free end and the application edges(5a,5b) of a wedge-shaped applicator(4). In the portion of its application head, the applicator has two application edges spaced apart from each other at right angles to the longitudinal mid-central axis. The tape sections(7a,7b)at the lower longitudinal side(11a) faces the substrate(8) during the mode of operation and at the upper longitudinal side(11b) opposite the lower longitudinal side/surface. The second application edge(5b)projects from the lower longitudinal side of the applicator. The front end portion of the applicator is movable against an elastic restoring force.
