Fibre optic device for measuring strain

Device is placed in contact with an object (1) to which a strain force is being applied. The device comprises a fiber optic cable (3) with an elasticity modulus greater than that of the object being measured. Arranged between the two is a layer of material (4) that has a much lower elasticity modulus than the fiber optic cable. The fiber optic cable is embedded in the matrix of the strain gauge (2).
