Pencil-type glow plug comprises a housing and heating element. The heating element consists of an insulating layer, and 2 feed layers connected to one end of the heating element on the combustion chamber side using a rod made of electrically conducting ceramic material. The heating element has two electrodes for determining the ion stream embedded in or applied on the insulating layer. Pencil-type glow plug comprises a housing (3) and a rod-like heating element (5) arranged in a concentric bore of the housing. The heating element consists of an insulating layer (11), a first feed layer (7) and a second feed layer (9). The layers are connected to one end of the heating element on the combustion chamber side using a rod (8) made of electrically conducting ceramic material. The insulating layer is made of an electrically insulating ceramic material. The heating element has two electrodes for determining the ion stream embedded in or applied on the insulating layer.
