[Also in Division F2] In an internal shoe drum brake assembly (Division F2) for vehicles mounted upon a non- rotatable axle member 12, a rigid support member in the form of a spider 13 is adapted to be fixed to the axle member 12, the support member being formed with oppositely extending integral arms 15, 16 having outwardly open recesses 17, 18 in which are mounted wedge and roller actuators adapted to be actuated by fluid pressure motors 21, opposed brake shoe mounting brackets 39, 41 being removably mounted upon the support member 13 intermediate the arms 15, 16. The support member 13 is formed with an aperture which is adapted to surround and to be welded to the axle member. The axle member is of hollow construction being of rectangular cross-section at its centre portion and of cylindrical section at its end portions to which the support members are welded. The brake shoe mounting brackets 39, 41 are provided with U-shaped intermediate spring clips 37 which overlie the flat web portions of the brake shoes to retain the brake shoes against the flat surfaces of the support brackets 39, 41 and to retain the shoes in a centred position. The axle member 12 has a generally rectangular cross-section centre portion 121 extending between cylindrical end portions 1211, the axle member consisting of a metal plate bent transversely to abut its opposite longitudinal edges and having a straight weld region permanently joining the longitudinal edges along their entire length.
