PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a desulfurization apparatus and a method for by which efficient desulfurization is attained without lowering the desulfurization performance even in the case that trace amount of NO is present in a flue gas. SOLUTION: In the apparatus for desulfurizing the flue gas 13 containing sulfur oxide by bringing the flue gas 13 into contact with at least one kind of a porous carbon material 11 selected from activated carbon and an activated carbon fiber provided in a desulurization column 12, an apparatus 14 for introducing NO2 gas into the desulfurization column 13 is provided.
