1283616 Urine collecting bags O LANGSTROM and K FENTON [trading as PEANNA LANGSTROM & CO] 31 Dec 1969 [31 Dec 1968] 63581/69 Heading A5R A urine collector comprises a liquid-proof bag 1 having an opening 2 and containing an absorbent 3 e.g. cellulose wadding, foamed plastics, prepared peat, torn paper material, divided longitudinally into two parts 4 and 5 by perforate partitions 7, 8 of a liquid repellant material such as plastics film, plastics gauze or foamed plastics. The part 7 of the partition wall opposite the opening 2 is imperforate or made water repellant and may comprise gauze covered by a bonded plastics foil or a foamed plastics to which a wax emulsion has been applied. The opening 2 is initially sealed by the plastics wall of the vessel which is provided with perforations for rupturing. The opening 2 is surrounded by a strengthening ring 9 having hooks 11 for the attachment to a belt which may be made of net or gauze. Intergageable button parts 13, 14 facilitate the carrying of a filled bag in folded condition. A bag for use with female patients Figures 3 and 4 not shown has the opening in the centre of one side and the bag assumes a U- or V-shaped form in use. The bags are made by feeding fluff to a conveyor belt, Figures 6 and 7 (not shown) and covering one side with a perforated plastics film 6, stamping out pairs of blanks, each corresponding to one side of the bag, and melting the film 6 on the fluff to strengthen it. An opening is formed in one blank of each pair. A layer of plastics foil is arranged below the blanks and is welded to the film at the edges and in the position of the opening. The foil is folded longitudinally in half and each pair of blanks have their longitudinal sides welded together. Rings 9 are attached, and the short sides of the bag are welded together, buttons 13, 14 being formed before the finished vessels are separated from each other, and finally packaged. |
