PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process to weld an expansion balloon to a catheter while improving the control of required heat. SOLUTION: The process to form a heat-welding between a shaft and the balloon including the selection of the long and thin catheter shaft (20) and the selection of the balloon (30) is provided. In this case, the catheter shaft (20) is formed of a thermoplastic polymer material which is opaque to red beams and near infrared beams. The balloon (30) is formed of a thermoplastic polymer material which is transparent or semi-transparent to red beams and near infrared beams. The neck (39) of the balloon is closely fitted on the distal section (24) of the shaft. Then, red beams and near infrared laser beams are cast to the opaque shaft section through the neck, and the section is heated. The heat is transmitted to the surrounding area, and materials of both members are molten and mixed. The molten material is cooled, and a weld-bonded section is formed. This process generates a strong and flexible bonding, and the materials can be selected from various kinds of materials. |
