摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new bacterium of the genus Pseudomonas capable of degrading organochlorine aromatic compounds, especially dioxins more rapidly than a conventional bacterium for about several hr to 1 day. SOLUTION: This bacterium is Pseudomonas mendocina FERM P-18187 newly separated from an oil field and capable of degrading the organochlorine aromatic compounds. The method for carrying out degradation treatment of the organochlorine aromatic compounds comprises using the bacteruim. The organochlorine aromatic compounds may be dioxins. Furthermore, the dioxins may be one kind selected from the group consisting of polychlorinted dibenzo-p- dioxins(PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans(PCDFs) and coplanar polychlorinated biphenyls(C-PCB). The figure illustrates the degradation ratio of the dioxins in a solution containing the bacterium of an air feeding system.
