PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink-jet recording medium in which a paper base material and an ink receiving layer are provided and the paper base material has excellent water resistance and it is satisfied that cockling caused by absorption of ink in the paper base material when ink-jet recording is performed and undulation of the base material caused by moisture absorption of the base material under a highly humid environment are prevented from being generated and a method for manufacturing it. SOLUTION: In the ink-jet recording medium characterized by providing a paper made of pulp fibers with carbonyl groups prepared by oxidizing a part of carbinol groups in pyranose rings in a cellulose skeleton in the pulp fiber as the base material and the ink receiving layer on one face of the base material, a paper prepared by adding a water-soluble polymer or polymer particles with nucleophilicity into a water-dispersed slurry of the carbonyl- containing pulp fibers and making it into a paper is used as the base material and the ink receiving layer is provided on one face of the base material.
