<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonlinear element, which has a symmetrical electric characteristic for an applied voltage, and a display device of high reliability which uses this element. SOLUTION: The nonlinear element connecting a picture element electrode 13 and a data bus line electrode 11 is provided on one glass substrate 1a. This nonlinear element (capacity Cfe) has a structure where one nonlinear element part (capacity Cfe1) consisting of the part of a ferroelectric layer 3 held between the data bus line electrode 11 and a lower layer electrode 2 and the other nonlinear element part (capacity Cfe2) consisting of the part of the ferroelectric layer 3 held between a connection electrode 5 and the lower layer electrode 2 are connected back to back in series. Though individual nonlinear element parts have asymmetrical electric characteristics for the applied voltage, respective asymmetries are resolved by canceling.</p> |
