PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a chip material constituted of a new structure wherein a stump left after cutting a tree and even a root part buried in the earth can be effectively recycled. SOLUTION: After taking out the root part buried in the earth of a wood stump after cutting, prison to a washing process an earth and sand group is dropped and separated by introducing a crushing process wherein many crushed wood pieces are formed by applying a tearing off and splitting means in a fiber direction with a crusher and the like. Thereafter, those many crushed wood pieces are collectively washed again. After completely washing away the partly left earth and sand group, the water content is appropriately removed, the remainder is casted into a chipping machine, a cutting treatment wherein wood fibers of many crushed wood pieces are cut in pieces is applied to obtain smaller wood chips than a specific size.
